Everton’s incoming new owners The Friedkin Group have been accused of throwing away €100m during their time in charge at AS Roma.
Tuttomercatoweb cover comments from Roma fan and former Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero today after he wrote an open letter to the American owners.
TFG have found themselves under increasing pressure at Roma following the sacking of Daniele de Rossi as manager last month.
The club icon had been handed a new deal in the summer after taking charge last season but a slow start to the season led the Roma owners to make a change.
That led to fury from the fanbase, who have since forced the resignation of CEO Lino Souloukou and openly protested against the ownership in various forms.
Questions are being raised about the work they’ve done at the club since arriving in 2020 and naturally proving to be interesting reading for Everton, who they are set to takeover before the end of the year.
The takeover at Everton in itself has caused problems for them at Roma, where fans and pundits are convinced, they will become an afterthought to the Premier League side.
Ferrero certainly thinks big changes are needed in the Italian capital, urging the Friedkins to rebuild Roma as soon as possible.
“Dear Friedkins, Roma must be rebuilt. Stop patching up and throwing money at this team, at the club,” he said.
“I grew up in the Roma curva, my heart beats yellow and red. But today I am very angry, because dear president Friedkin we are very happy that you have come to invest in Roma, but we are sorry because evidently you are surrounded by bad advisors.
“Roma must be rebuilt. You have not spent 100 million, you have thrown them away. Because you have people around you who perhaps have little understanding of this football. Roma is not a European parliament, it cannot be managed by foreign directors, like Monchi or Ghisolfi.
“Let’s form the new Roma government, stop throwing money away. Stop foreign sports directors like Monchi and Ghisolfi.
“You, President, who must be respected for how much money you have put into Roma, cannot come to Rome to be an American. I don’t want money and I’m not looking for a job, I just want you to give us a dream.”
