Everton have made contact with Boca Juniors to ask about 18-year-old defender Aaron Anselmino.
That’s according to Planeta Boca Juniors, who say Everton ‘consulted’ the club to ask about the defender’s conditions and even went as far as discovering details about his personal situations.
They were firmly interested in the 18-year-old, who is among the highly rated youngsters currently at Boca Juniors and backed to have a bright future in the game.
Their interest was noted by Boca, who have moved quickly to get the young defender signed to a new deal until 2028 that saw his release clause increased to $20m.
Their aim is to avoid a similar situation to the recent one with Valentin Barco, who left the club to join Brighton in a $10m deal, a figure considered far below his market value.
They want to protect themselves from losing other young stars in future and thus moved quickly after Everton inquired about Anselmino to ensure he was well protected.
Given the Toffees’ financial situation at present it’s unlikely they’ll be paying that release clause any time soon, but Kevin Thelwell and his team are clearly thinking about the future, and he may be a name to keep an eye on in future.
