Everton are ‘interested’ in Fenerbahçe defender Attila Szalai, who is valued at €20m by the Turkish side.
That’s according to Star, who say the Toffees will have to move quickly if they want the Hungarian as he’s been offered to Anderlecht.
They report that Szalai is officially being courted by sides around Europe, with Fenerbahçe open to sale as they plan their squad for next season.
The 25-year-old is one of the stand out players for the Turkish side and ‘has been offered’ to Anderlecht, who have ‘officially stepped in’ and shown an interest in the player.
They are one of several sides keen on him, with Star reporting that Everton, Valencia, Zenit and Wolfsburg are also ‘interested’ in a potential deal.
Fenerbahçe are seemingly open to a sale and have set a €20m asking price on the defender should he move this summer.
Whether that’s a price Everton would be willing to pay isn’t mentioned but it seems unlikely given the very public state of their finances.
They’re known to be working on a limited budget due to Financial Fair Play issues and several reports have made it clear that they may need a big sale before they can do any serious business.
Given their desperate need for a striker and to strengthen other positions it seems unlikely they’ll be splashing €20m on Szalai any time soon, not unless Fenerbahçe are willing to accept an extremely structured deal.
