Everton midfielder Dele Alli has been handed an ‘ultimatum’ by Besiktas manager Şenol Güneş amid his disappointing displays in Turkey.
Alli joined the Turkish side on loan in the summer when it was made clear he was not a part of Everton’s plans moving forwards.
He had only joined the Toffees from Tottenham in the January transfer window last year but failed to make any significant impact as they battled relegation at the end of the season.
Thus he was sent out to Turkey, with the hope being that he could revive his career away from the Premier League.
That has not proven to be the case, though, with Alli making just eight appearances in the Super Lig this season and scoring one goal.
Numerous reports from Turkey have made it clear that Besiktas are not happy about the situation and have been exploring their options regarding the loan deal.
In the meantime it seems Şenol Güneş has tried to work out what the root of the problem is, holding a private meeting with the Everton loanee to talk about his performances this season.
According to Cumhuriyet, he told Alli: “We have high hopes for you. You are one of the most talented players in the world. However, you could not fulfil our expectations.
“If you have a problem or a problem, I want to know about it. If there is something we can do, let’s solve it. However, if there is a problem that cannot be solved, let’s part ways.”
This message was seemingly acknowledged by the player, who is reported to have said that he ‘continued to adapt and work’.
What that means isn’t exactly clear but it seems he and Besiktas are not at breaking point, yet, but the Turkish side and Güneş are certainly not happy with him.
