Everton will face big competition for Eintracht Frankfurt star Daichi Kamada in January, with Borussia Dortmund also eyeing up a deal.

That’s according to Sport 1, who say Dortmund will look at a deal for the Japanese star should they move for the 26-year-old.

Earlier this month we covered a report that stated Kamada was a target for Everton, who had already ‘knocked on the door’ for the player.

It was made clear at the time that Everton would be pulling off a major coup if they were to secure Kamada’s signature, with the competition for him fierce.

Sport 1 now add to that and explain that one of the big competitors for his signature will be Borussia Dortmund.

They say the German giants are ‘in the middle of transfer planning’ and Kamada has found himself at the top of their list of targets.

His 12 goals and three assists in 20 games so far this season have been key to Frankfurt’s fine form and Dortmund are now eyeing him up as a target.

“BVB are said to have put out feelers for Kamada and have already made loose contact with him,” reports journalist Patrick Berger.

“We hear that Eintracht would reach their limits financially. If he does extend, then only for emotional and not financial reasons. He is definitely at the top of BVB’s list.”

According to Sport 1’s information, BVB boss Sebastien Kehl already met with Kamada’s advisors last week before the clash between Dortmund and Frankfurt.

The player’s contract expires in the summer and extension talks are currently at a standstill, hence the interest from Dortmund and the likes of Everton.

“Borussia Dortmund has an increased interest in the player,” added journalist Christopher Michel.

“For Eintracht, an extension is becoming increasingly difficult, perhaps even utopian. Kamada does appreciate what he has experienced at Eintracht and is very grateful to the club.

“The next step in his career – he is now 26 – would come at the right time. Why not BVB?”

There is one catch, though, and that is the World Cup. Kamada is set to play for Japan at the tournament in Qatar, where he could continue his fine form.

If that happens it could see more teams join the race for his signature, or convince the ones who are already interested, like Everton, to firm up their interest.

That’s something journalist Oliver Müller can certainly see happening, hinting the race may not be over for the Toffees.

“The World Cup is a big player exchange where you can present yourself and make yourself known to even bigger clubs,” he added.

“If Kamada confirms his convincing performances at the World Cup as well, it’s only a matter of time before the English or Spanish also get involved.”
