Everton ‘could convince’ Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski into a move to Goodison Park if they revive their previous interest in him.
That’s according to Il Mattino, who say the player’s future at the Serie A side is ‘increasingly in the balance’ as he enters the final year of his deal.
The newspaper reports that the Polish midfielder’s contract currently expires in 2024 and while Napoli would be happy to keep him, his current salary is ‘too high’ for the parameters set by president Aurelio de Laurentiis.
They’ve been working to reduce the salaries of the entire squad in recent months and Zielinski would be forced to take a cut if he were to sign an extension.
Whether he is willing to do so is up for debate, although reports in his native Poland have stated that he could accept a ‘minimal cut’ to remain where he is.
That remains to be seen but in the event that he fails to agree to a new deal, his future ‘can only be in the Premier League’ if he does.
Zielinski has ‘always dreamed’ of an opportunity to play in England’s top flight and the ‘previous willingness’ of clubs such as Everton ‘could convince him’ to move if it were revived.
At this point there is no indication Everton will make such an offer but it’s made clear that if they were to revive their interest then Zielinski could be tempted.
