Everton could be willing to send Bernard on loan to Roma in the January transfer market if they remain interested in the Brazilian.
That’s according to journalist Alvise Cagnazzo, who believes Ancelotti remains a fan of Serie A after his various stints managing in his homeland.
Bernard was linked with a move to Roma towards the end of the summer, with reports in Italy claiming that they were looking at him as an alternative to Stephan El Shaarawy.
Ultimately a move never came off, but the rumours did not go away, with Il Tempo claiming last month that Roma manager Paulo Fonseca remains determined to sign either Bernard or El Shaaraway to bolster his squad in January.
That was the last we heard about a possible move, but Cagnazzo has hinted the Blues may be keen on a loan if Ancelotti sees it as a way to develop the player.
“A lot will depend on whether he decides to invest in the player,” he told AS Roma Live.
“But if there is the possibility, the Italian league is seen very well by Ancelotti to encourage the development of his players.
“Many players from England have done very well in Serie A, with the exception of Eriksen and Ramsey.
“Everton is a young and strong team, and I’m happy that a noble English team has an Italian coach-manager at its helm.”
In truth, though, it seems unlikely Everton would want to ‘invest’ in Bernard given his age and what he’s shown so far.
The 28-year-old has not been a bad signing by any means, but he’s hardly shone either and given the other players in the squad, it seems unlikely Everton will be placing any long-term hopes on him.
Indeed, it’s far more plausible that they’d like to get a fee for him, get his wages off the books and invest that back into the team in a much younger player.
Whether Roma would be willing to help with that isn’t clear, although perhaps a loan deal in January with a purchase clause for the summer could suit all parties.
