On Monday, big news from South America emerged saying Edinson Cavani has decided to leave Manchester United in the summer and sign for Boca Juniors.
The striker’s entourage spoke to Argentine newspaper Olé claiming the plan is for him to make the move in July, when his contract with the Red Devils expires.
Well, there’s no need to say the news had a huge impact in the local media, with a few other outlets bringing more information on it.
There’s now an interesting piece from ESPN Uruguay where they confirm Boca Juniors’ interest in signing Cavani in the summer. However, they show the other side of the story as well.
Speaking to sources close to the striker, ESPN learned that even though Cavani’s contract with Manchester United expires in the summer, both the player and the club find it ‘viable’ to trigger the extension clause for another season.
Moreover, the Red Devils told the striker’s entourage that they’d like to renew his deal for one further year, since it’s their wish that he finishes his career at Old Trafford.
ESPN claims that Boca Juniors don’t want to wait and expect to sign Cavani in the summer. However, his entourage told the outlet that it’s too early to decide that, and right now, the extension with Manchester United is more likely.
