Jonathan David’s future at Juventus remains uncertain and Aston Villa’s interest comes as a ray of hope for the Bianconeri.
The striker had a disappointing 2025/26 campaign in Turin, scoring just six times in the Serie A. Under Luciano Spalletti, he fell out of favour in the first-team and the Italian also dropped him from the starting eleven several times towards the end of the campaign.
In January, Sport Witness covered that Crystal Palace had asked for the Canada international as part of Juve’s move for Jean-Philippe Mateta. A swap deal never progressed but it suggested that English clubs could be interested in the striker.
Now, Aston Villa are in the picture to sign him.
Deal could be key for Juve
Today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport states Juve are currently focused on possible sales. Exits will allow them make some last, vital signings, with Joshua Zirkzee and Jhon Lucumi amongst their targets.
This makes David a player who can depart this summer.

While the Spaniard is leading the charge for the signing, it could present a financial challenge. The Villans have already expressed concerns, making it clear that David’s wage demands are too high for them.
He earns €6m per season, after tax, in Turin but Aston Villa would struggle to pay that.
If this issue is ironed out, a deal could be straightforward. Juve signed David for free last summer and anything they earn goes down as a capital gain. His exit also gives them the room to sign Zirkzee from Manchester United.
Our take: Late deal could be possible
For now, David doesn’t appear too desperate to leave Juve. He is one of their highest paid players and won’t mind a squad status, while earning a hefty amount.
Things could change late in the window. At that point, Juve could be desperate for signings. They are no strangers to kicking players out of their project and if nothing moves, they could take this action with David, if they want signings.
The transfer would then become easir for Aston Villa, who can sign a striker who is desperate to prove himself. He would also arrive for an affordable fee and his wage demands may drop.
