Earlier this year, the Spanish press reported Wolverhampton Wanderers were among the clubs who were willing to trigger Yeremay Hernández’s €33m clause that’s in his contract with Deportivo de La Coruña.
In June, he signed an extension until 2030, with an option for another three years and the following month, he indicated Wolves expressed interest.
The Premier League side didn’t make advances in the summer window and are still said to be looking at him for January.
That’s at least what Fichajes.net are reporting, and they state Wolves view the winger as a key player who can ‘provide creativity, balance, and goalscoring, elements’ to help them get out of the relegation zone.
Their policy is to focus on young talents who can grow and make a quick impact, and the 22-year-old is seen as a perfect fit.
It’s claimed Vítor Pereira’s side are convinced of Yeremay that they are willing to pay his €60m release clause in the next window.
Fichajes.net state: ‘Wolves are not only looking to strengthen their squad, but also to send a clear message to their fans: they are committed to turning things around and seeking ambitious solutions. Signing a player of Yeremay’s stature would signal that the club is willing to invest in talent and spare no effort to climb out of the bottom half of the table.’
The Spaniard is yet to play in La Liga and has been in the lower divisions with Deportivo de La Coruña.
If Wolves were keen on signing him, they would have activated his earlier clause of €33m [before he signed an extension in June]. Even if they are determined to get him in January, they are unlikely to pay anywhere close to the figure quoted.
Fichajes.net’s claim of Wolves being willing to offer €60m looks wild and until this is backed up concretely by others in Spain and England, it’s best to take this report with a pinch of salt.
