As River Plate prepare to play their arch rivals Boca Juniors at the weekend, their line-up could result in a big chunk of money going to the club.
As revealed by TyC Sports, Manchester City will have to pay them a €500k bonus in case Claudio Echeverri starts the superclasico.
The reason is that in the contract for the player’s transfer to Pep Guardiola’s side, there’s a bonus for each eight matches he starts. This was part of the negotiation and it’s fair to say Manchester City may not have expected this to happen.
Echeverri started in seven games for River Plate since then, and could be in the lineup for a quite big game on Sunday.
Moreover, if he reaches that number this weekend, that also confirms that he’ll be loaned to the Buenos Aires side until December, joining Manchester City only in January.
This decision is in the hands of a former player from the Sky Blues, as it’s Martin Demichelis who’s in charge of River Plate.
Echeverri has recently been hyped up by the Argentine media big time, and there’s actually some expectation about him starting on Sunday.
