Tottenham are one of the sides interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens and could even pay €100m to sign him this summer.

That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who reports that Dortmund could be forced into a sale if they fail to make it into the Champions League.

Dortmund currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga after something of a disastrous season that’s seen them drop eight points outside of the top four in the division.

They are looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season as a result, unless they somehow win the competition this season. That is not impossible, particularly after reaching the final last season, but is seen as unlikely.

That would be a major blow for the German side, particularly financially, as they’d miss out on the major revenue that the competition brings.

It could force them into sales in the summer and several of their stars, including Gittens, have already been linked with potential moves away.

Tottenham have been named as one of the 20-years-old’s admirers and Falk insists it is not unrealistic that they could pay €100m for him either.

“Dortmund crashed in the league, the Champions League is getting further and further away, and with that the income from the Champions League next season,” he told SportBILD.

“They have to win it to be in it again. If they miss out, they’ll have to sell players and Gittens is highly regarded. Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be offering €100m. You have to say that would be nice money.

“Hans-Joachim Watzke recently admitted that they will have to sell one or two players if they miss out on the Champions League. So, a transfer for Gittens could happen.

“The English have the money; they have the TV contracts. Bayern Munich won’t pay this summer, and they could have him with that. But yes, Tottenham I think they’ll bet big.”
