Manchester City and Newcastle United have set their sights on NK Osijek’s Anton Matković and Lokomotiva Zagreb goalkeeper Nikola Čavlina.
That’s according to L’Interista, who state both the Citizens and Eddie Howe’s side sent their officials to Croatia to follow the duo live in action when the two sides faced each other on Saturday.
Inter Milan have identified the Croatian youngsters as targets and now have to be wary of both Manchester City and Newcastle.
Osijek sealed a 3-1 win over Lokomotiva Zagreb and the 18-year-old forward starred by scoring a brace. This makes Matković an ‘absolute protagonist’ of the tie and it must have pleased the emissaries of both Manchester City and Newcastle.
Despite conceding three goals, L’Interista claim Lokomotiva Zagreb were able to avoid an embarrassing scoreline, thanks to the 21-year-old stopper.
In short, Matković and Čavlina’s performances certainly didn’t go unnoticed, and the duo will have impressed both Pep Guardiola’s side and the Magpies.
Matković’s agent Marjan Sisic also manages Manchester City’s Joško Gvardiol and this may give the Etihad club an advantage over Newcastle, if they are keen on signing him.
“I am also Gvardiol’s agent. I can only say that my approach with Matković will be the same. He will take the right step at the right time,” he told FcInterNews last week.
