FC Twente’s Daan Rots will not be joining Leeds United this summer, despite reports to the contrary.
That’s according to journalist Leon ten Voorde, who says everyone at the club has ‘had a big laugh’ about the transfer rumour.
The 20-year-old right winger had been named as a target for Leeds this summer as they continue their rebuild under Jesse Marsch.
The Whites have been busy adding players to their squad in this transfer window, with a need to replace Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips but also refresh a squad that narrowly avoided relegation last season.
The rumour about the move to Leeds was only a thin one at best, though, with the original links appearing on social media, and it seems they were wide of the mark anyway.
“We had a big laugh about that last Friday with Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Wout Brama and Daan Rots,” Ten Voorde at De Ballen Verstand, relayed by Twente Fans.
“It came in on Twitter, and then I sent it to someone at FC Twente. I immediately got a message back: 627 followers. In other words: don’t take it seriously.
“But Daan was ‘harassed’ with it all the time at the training camp. He was also called ‘Dean the Rock’. That Match of the Day was about Sinisterra on the one hand and ‘Dean the Rock’ on the other. He thought that was a nice nickname in itself.
“Rots was fooling around a bit with corner kicks, and Van Wolfswinkel said something about it. Rots responded: doesn’t matter, does it? I will soon be playing in the Premier League anyway. They fooled around a bit, but Daan Rots will not go to Leeds United.”
