Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted they don’t know what will happen with João Félix and Chelsea this summer.

The Atlético chief has been speaking to Rádio Marca, relayed by Mais Futebol, about the Portuguese player as he spends the second half of the season on loan with the Blues.

He arrived in a loan deal in the January transfer window but has struggled to impress at Stamford Bridge, scoring three goals in 13 Premier League games to date.

That’s led to questions about what will happen in the summer transfer window, with it as yet unclear whether Chelsea will keep him permanently, given they don’t have a clause to do so in his current loan deal.

Atlético Madrid would be happy to sell the 23-year-old given how they’ve flourished without the player in their side since his departure in January.

The situation is currently fluid, with much likely to depend on how much Chelsea can spend given their outlay in the previous two transfer windows and Cerezo admits he is unsure what will happen.

“We don’t know what will happen to João Félix,” he said.

“At the moment he is at Chelsea. When he finishes playing for Chelsea, he can renew, or not, he can continue another season, or not… But don’t worry, he will continue to play.”
