RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku ‘will definitely join’ Chelsea in the summer, according to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg adds that the Blues’ struggles this season would not have any impact on the forward joining them.

Chelsea have struggled in the league and are currently 10th in the table with 37 points, 11 points behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

Graham Potter’s side are likely to miss out on the Champions League next season, unless they win the same competition this season. Irrespective of where the west London club will finish in the table, the France international will move to Stamford Bridge.

With regards to the operation to take the 25-year-old to Chelsea, the reporter says ‘it’s all done’. The fee will be around €60m and the player will sign a long-term contract with the Blues. The official announcement will ‘probably’ be made after the season.

This report comes a day after RB Leipzig chief Max Eberl told Sport1 that the Frenchman will leave in the next window.

“I’m glad that the contract extension with him last summer still worked. Unfortunately, with him, a top player would leave us,” Eberl said.

Nkunku has 17 goals and five assists from 27 matches in all competitions this season.
