Oliver Glasner’s potential arrival at Crystal Palace to replace Roy Hodgson should be no surprise, as it was predicted by Rapid Vienna sporting director Jürgen Werner back in January.
That’s according to journalist Peter Linden, who reports that Crystal Palace are a ‘credible’ option for the Austrian as he looks to get back into the game.
Glasner has appeared as the leading candidate to replace Hodgson at Crystal Palace over the course of the last 24 hours, with increasing reports in England that the latter is set to be sacked following a dismal run of form.
The belief is that the former Eintracht Frankfurt coach is at the top of the wish list and a report in Germany yesterday explained he would be open to the switch if the offer was right.
He’s not commented on any links up to now and it will the same for Crystal Palace, who will need to convince him.
Indeed, Linden echoes earlier claims and states that Glasner hasn’t set a date for his return to football and will make it ‘entirely dependent on the offer’. He’s already turned down one from Saudi Arabia and then Nottingham Forest in the Autumn.
England does appeal to him, though, so there’s that potential boost for Crystal Palace at least. And if the move does come off, it should surprise nobody.
Linden explains that during Austria Vienna’s training camp in Malta in January, their sporting director Jürgen Werner, who worked with Glasner at LASK, stated that ‘he could imagine’ Glasner ending up at Crystal Palace.
Werner and Glasner remain in regular contact, and Linden feels that prediction ‘could not be a coincidence’, hinting perhaps that the Eagles may have been working in this potential appointment for a while.
