The sporting director of Ternana has told the Italian media Felipe Avenatti will not be leaving the club in this transfer window. The 23-year-old will be out of contract in the summer, and has been linked with a move to Leeds United.
Ternana News have reported on comments Danilo Pagni made in the press conference when presenting new Ternana manager Carmine Gautieri. There has been speculation Ternana could sell Avenatti on the cheap before the deadline, but Pagni has ruled this out.
Pagni said they need Avenatti to help in their relegation battle to Lega Pro, and he expects the forward to do everything he can in to avoid this.
“Avenatti remains with us. He knows very well that he should do his utmost to help us out of a very difficult situation,” said the Ternana director.
It now seems Avenatti will see out his contract with the Serie B club and a scramble to sign the South American is now likely to happen in the summer.
Leeds United could be one of those clubs looking to snap the player up on a free transfer after their previous attempts to sign him. Leeds United made an approach for Avenatti in the last window, but again were unsuccessful.
Leeds United will face competition from a host of Serie A and B clubs looking to take the Avenatti on a free.
