Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence was on loan at Genoa in the second half of the 2023/24 season.
Operating mainly as a right wing-back, and at times as a left wing-back, he played 16 games for the Serie A side. They are keen on retaining him, according to Genoa sporting director Marco Ottolini.
Speaking to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Sport Mediaset, Ottolini has revealed that his side are in talks with Tottenham and the 23-year-old.
“Spence and Vitinha [on loan from Marseille]? We are talking with the clubs and the players, the idea is to keep them here. Spence has Champions League quality and still untapped potential,” he said.
As part of the loan deal, Genoa have an option to make the Tottenham player’s stay permanent this summer. Ottolini’s comment suggests that the Italian club are trying to negotiate a fresh deal with Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Earlier this week, Calciomercato said the buying option for the defender is set at €10m. It was explained that Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez has travelled to London to try to convince Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to offer a discount for Spence.
There should be more updates in the coming days and weeks on the outcome of Genoa’s talks with both the north London club and Spence.
