Brazilian executive Alexandre Mattos has confirmed he’s accepted an offer to work at Championship side Reading.
The 43-year-old has been interviewed by Super Esportes on Monday morning in Brazil, and said the move to England is the “realisation of a dream”.
“Quality of life, all of these things, along with the work that will be done at Reading. Let’s interface with the other clubs in the group, it’s a huge challenge, but let’s go.”
But Mattos isn’t moving to England so soon. As reported by the Brazilian media last night, he’s still to get a work permit for England, so it should take a couple of months until the paperwork is completed.
Meanwhile, he has another job. Cruzeiro, the big Belo Horizonte club where Mattos made his name when building the squads who won the league in 2013 and 2014, have just been relegated.
So he’s offered himself to work for free and help them to build the squad who will play in the second division this year.
Mattos’ previous campaigns at Cruzeiro made him the most famous football director in Brazil, having joined Palmeiras in 2015, building the squad which won the league in 2016 and 2018. Now after working for some of the richest clubs in Brazil, he should have a totally different job with Reading.
