Atlético Madrid are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero this summer. The Spanish media have repeatedly reported this, and last month Diego Simeone said he would “obviously” want to sign the centre-back for the La Liga club.

Spurs have reportedly set a £70m [€81.4m] price, while the Spanish media have it at €70m.

Two days ago, AS reported Atlético have intensified talks with Thomas Frank’s side, and it could be the decisive week to try and sign the defender. Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reiterates that Romero wants a new challenge and wants to leave Tottenham this summer.

The Argentina international’s desire is to join Los Rojiblancos, where he’s admired by Simeone and has several compatriots in place.

Mundo Deportivo relay claims from elsewhere about negotiations between the two clubs and that Levy is requesting €70m for the World Cup winner. The newspaper then provides their own take and states Atlético’s desire is lower the price, to ‘somewhere between €45m and €55m’.

Atlético are unlikely to sign Romero for around €45m, considering he has two years left on his contract and Tottenham’s record of being good at getting appropriate fees.
