Ever since Maurizio Sarri was touted to be the next Chelsea manager, Daniele Rugani was supposedly meant to leave Juventus and team up with him at Stamford Bridge.

Talk of bids being made by the Blues appeared here and there, but there was never anything huge in the Italian press, suggesting they never really existed in the first place, or if they did, they weren’t entertained.

This, in essence, is what the young defender’s agent stated in a chat with Tuttosport on Monday, who was asked about his client’s future and whether a move to Chelsea was on the cards.

He said: “Everyone is thinking he could follow [Sarri] to Chelsea, but you have to consider that Juventus have never accepted an offer, from Napoli or other squads, and have always expressed the desire to keep the player and that desire hasn’t changed.

“Rugani hasn’t expressed a desire to go elsewhere, but it must be said that if there is a request, it will be heard, because in football there is respect”.

From that, it’s pretty clear that any transfer to Chelsea for Rugani isn’t at an advanced stage, or at least far from being as advanced as was speculated in the Italian media previously.

This has all stemmed from Maurizio Sarri’s desire to bring the centre-back to Napoli in the past, and having managed him during his time at Empoli.
