When Carlos ‘Charly’ Alcaraz was first signed by Southampton, few expected the Argentine to play a big role at St Mary’s.
However, the club’s situation at the time meant trying anything was better than not, and the young midfielder quickly made a spot for himself in the team.
Despite relegation to the Championship, that hasn’t changed, and the 21-year-old is now ‘dazzling’ for Southampton, with a potential reward for him down the line, according to AS.
He has now ‘found stability’ at Southampton, and there is even something of a ‘Charly-dependence’ on the pitch, as they have yet to lose a game he has started in.
His efforts have ‘not gone unnoticed’ at international level, either, as AS explain that ‘several Argentine scouts’ have been following his progress, which showed when he was called up by Lionel Scaloni in October.
Considered one of the ‘best talents of his generation’, Alcaraz is also seen as one of the main players Javier Mascherano will build his 2024 Olympics squad around.
That would be a huge honour for the Southampton star, and one, if he continues as he has started, he fully deserves.
