Following initial reports from the English media claiming Tottenham Hotspur are interested in having Tiago Pinto as their new director of football, we now get to see a very interesting update from the Portuguese press on that pursuit.
The news is brought by Mais Futebol, who back up that the AS Roma boss is a target for Spurs this summer.
First of all, their report makes it clear that it’s West Ham who lead the race for Pinto, with their owner already holding meetings with him. Tottenham come next, in a ‘second scale of interest’.
Despite stories from the English press claiming Spurs started contacts with the official, Mais Futebol claim there was only an approach made by an intermediary who was ‘mandated’ by Daniel Levy. In this first contact, they wanted to know whether he’ll be available for a new job.
Pinto has a contract with Roma running until 2024, and according to the report the end to their season will decide whether he’s staying or leaving the Serie A side.
The Portuguese chief has ‘never hidden the ambition’ of working in the Premier League, and that could maybe play on Tottenham’s side. But it should take a couple of weeks until he gets a clearer picture of his situation.
