Should Tottenham interest in Lucas Moura be as strong as L’Equipe reported it was a few days ago, then the club have a great chance to close a deal.

On January 18th L’Equipe reported Tottenham had initiated contact to try and sign the Brazilian, with Lucas named as a man on Mauricio Pochettino’s wanted list.

Whilst the French newspaper made a point of saying there’s good contacts between Tottenham and PSG from the Serge Aurier deal, they also added ‘but with Daniel Levy, negotiations are never easy’.

PSG would prefer a permanent transfer and Tottenham a loan, and it was thought they could meet somewhere in the middle. L’Equipe were very clear that Tottenham want the signing and are working on it.

On Monday come comments from Lucas himself, more comments. For the second time in a week or so the PSG player has made it clear he’s not happy and is looking toward the exit.

Asked about a move to La Liga, with some feeling it would suit the player best, speaking to L’Equipe Lucas made sure to keep all options open:I do not really know. It is true that La Liga could suit me. With my speed and technique, I could perform well. But no matter where I land. I know what I am capable of, I did not become an international by chance.”

L’Equipe say Lucas could arrive in the Premier League, with Tottenham and Manchester United mentioned, but with Jose Mourinho securing Alexis Sanchez that track looks closed.

With no other clubs currently in strongly, Daniel Levy now has the opportunity to close the deal for Tottenham, should he so wish.

PSG could be about to be taken through the Levy end-of-window transfer process.
