West Ham United co-owner Daniel Křetínský has no intention of leaving the club amid the turmoil.
The Hammers dropped out of the Premier League last month and there’s been changes within the club.
Two days ago, West Ham co-owner David Sullivan stepped down from his role as joint Chairman with immediate effect. He left his position at the London club in the wake of serious allegations about his private life.
The latest claims from the UK have indicated Sullivan is open to selling his 38.8% stake at West Ham. The Czech billionaire holds a 27% stake, which he brought it in 2021.
Křetínský is a minority shareholder but only Sullivan has a higher stake in the club than him. The former is also a co-owner and president of Sparta Prague.
Křetínský blames mistakes for relegation
On May 27th, West Ham United confirmed that Nuno Espírito Santo will continue as their manager despite relegation.
He isn’t the only one to stay as co-owner Daniel Křetínský has publicly expressesed his desire to stay.
The billionaire has been speaking to podcast Všechno Začíná Dnes and inFotbal.cz have relayed his comments. He’s clearly unhappy with some of the decisions at West Ham but has no plans to abandon the club.
“Here we are a minority shareholder, we don’t manage the club, but of course we are part of important conversations,” he said.
“It helps a little that you don’t have the ultimate responsibility, so you don’t feel like you’ve spoiled something for the fans. But even here I’ve found my stress limits. We’ve made mistakes in the past that cost us relegation.
“I will definitely stay. It doesn’t matter if we’re in the first or second league. That’s not a reason to leave the club.”
West Ham aiming for quick PL return
The English club are now aiming to return to the Premier League for the 2027/28 season.
Daniel Křetínský is open to playing a part in helping the club get back to the top division.
“I will try to find any possible way to contribute to West Ham’s return to the Premier League,” Křetínský explained.
According to inFotbal.cz, the next few weeks will provide clarity on whether he intends to increase his stake.
