Crystal Palace are set to face competition from Newcastle United, Liverpool and others in the race for SC Freiburg’s Merlin Röhl in the summer window.
That’s according to Bild, who state the Premier League trio have become the latest clubs to set their sights on the 22-year-old.
At the weekend, Kicker stated Everton are looking Röhl for next season. Bild relay that and then give their own updates on Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Liverpool.
The attacking midfielder managed three goals and four assists from 34 games last season and managed an assist from 17 games this season. His performances for the Bundesliga club and Germany U21 have caught the attention of the Premier League clubs.
According to the report, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the player.
Transfermarkt values him at €12m, but the English clubs have to dig deep because Bild state the German club want at least a similar fee they received for Kevin Schade from Brentford. In other words, Freiburg want €25m for Röhl.
Since last April, he has already missed over 180 days due to three different injuries and is currently on the sidelines. Taking this into account, it’s unlikely Crystal Palace, Newcastle or Liverpool will meet Freiburg’s demand.
It feels like Bild are trying to use the English clubs to create further hype around Röhl.
