Signed from Arsenal on a free, Mathieu Flamini’s supposed ‘resurgence’ at Crystal Palace hasn’t quite gone to plan.
Barely making an appearance under Alan Pardew, the 32-year-old defensive midfielder has played a bit more since Sam Allardyce’s arrival, even if results haven’t exactly improved, yet he’s still being linked with a move away from Selhurst Park.
This month’s edition of La Gazette des Transferts claims the former Gunner could be a target for Ligue 1 side Bastia, who are looking to bolster their midfield at a very low price.
The reasoning behind this whole transfer is that Flamini’s lack of game time at Crystal Palace could have lead to him cancelling his one-year contract with the club early, followed by a tempting move back to Ligue 1, where he started his career with Marseille.
(Un?)Fortunately for Crystal Palace fans, there’s a strong likelihood this article was written before Sam Allardyce took over, and considering Flamini has been playing more, an early contract termination now seems very unlikely.
This isn’t the first time the defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to Bastia.
Back in 2015, Eurosport in France reported an interest from the then Ligue 2 side Flamini was still at Arsenal.
