RB Leipzig have Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on their list, according to Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze.

He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state the Crystal Palace boss, Roger Schmidt and Sebastian Hoeneß are the candidates to become the next Leipzig manager.

Marco Rose is currently in charge but is expected to leave at the end of this season. The journalist claims Hoeneß, who is currently at VfB Stuttgart, is the top candidate.

Hinze’s colleague at Sky, Florian Plettenberg, has backed it up when speaking to Sport1‘s Stahlwerk Doppelpass, and provided additional updates.

Red Bull head of football Jürgen Klopp is actively involved in the Bundesliga club’s decision to change managers. Plettenberg claims Rose will finish this season and Hoeneß, Glasner and Schmidt are in contention to replace him.

“There will be a change in the summer, led by Jürgen Klopp and then we will part ways with Marco Rose in the summer, he knows that too and then from the summer there will be a top candidate and that is Sebastian Hoeneß. He is described internally at RB as the desired solution and has also been approved by Jürgen Klopp. Two other candidates are Oliver Glasner and Roger Schmidt,” he said.

Hoeneß joined Stuttgart in 2023, and they are pleased with the work he has done so far. Stuttgart sporting Fabian Wohlgemuth insists the manager isn’t looking to changes clubs.

“It’s a weekly refrain that our coach is linked with other clubs,” Wohlgemuth told Sport1.

“That’s [Hoeneß’s heart is closer to the club now] why I’m convinced that there won’t be any vacancies with us. He gave us and the club a new identity and showed the team a new path. I’m sure he’ll stay.”

Stuttgart’s refusal to let their coach leave can see Leipzig look at Glasner or Schmidt. The latter is without a club since leaving Benfica last August.

Glasner joined Crystal Palace in February 2024 and Bayern Munich reportedly looked at him last summer. The Eagles are currently 12th in the table and made it to the FA Cup quarter-final under the Austrian’s orders.

There could be developments in Leipzig’s search for a new manager in the next few weeks or months.
