Santos midfielder Lucas Lima turned down the chance to sign for Crystal Palace despite the Premier League side agreeing on a transfer fee with his club, according to claims from Italy.

TMW have claimed Crystal Palace and Santos had come to agreement on his transfer fee, which was reported to be €15m. The deal looked like it would go through before the deadline, but Lima decided to remain in Brazil. Crystal Palace had offered the player a four-year contract, and were willing to pay him €2.5m a season.

During the transfer window we covered claims Crystal Place had tabled an offer of €15m with the Brazilian side, but they would only sell the player for €20m. Those claims also came from TMW, on August 27th, and either things changed very quickly indeed, or this story lacks consistency of any sort.

Slightly earlier reports, from Brazil, stated Palace were interested in taking the player on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer.

Despite having a bad season, Lucas Lima is a very intelligent and skilful midfielder who has shown a lot of good things in the last couple of years. Lucas Lima’s release clause is said to be €60M.
