While he might not have played that much over the course of the international break, Rasmus Højlund was still a huge talking point in Denmark following his transfer to Manchester United.

The Dane was chosen by Erik ten Hag as the striker for the present and the future at Old Trafford going forward, with the Red Devils spending heavily to get him from Atalanta.

An injury has stopped him from playing too much to date, but that hasn’t stopped many from being impressed at his rise in football, including William Bøving, who knows Højlund from their time together Copenhagen.

The 20-year-old has taken the same start of his career path as the Manchester United forward, transferring from FCK to Sturm Graz in Austria.

Højlund then quickly moved to Atalanta and then to Old Trafford, and this quick chain of events is something few can wrap their head around.

Speaking to Bold.dk, he said: “It’s crazy! It’s crazy because there aren’t many people who take such a fast path forward, but it’s really good, and he’s taken the chances he’s been given. He’s a big boy who makes good use of it, so well done him.”

Asked what the reaction has been like at Sturm Graz, he said: “They are impressed. They think it’s crazy, because they got a player from FCK who first got his breakthrough in Sturm Graz, and the journey after has been lightning fast and good.”

Højlund’s only appearance for Manchester United has been a cameo in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal before the international break, and the player will be champing at the bit to get more minutes over the next few games, which includes a clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
