Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville has admitted he’s been feeling the stress this season as they battle against relegation.
The Dutchman has been speaking to Algemeen Dagblad in his homeland about his time at Elland Road so far and what has been something of a breakthrough season for him.
He’s been a regular for Leeds this year under Jesse Marsch and now Javi Gracia, making 23 appearances in the Premier League so far and featuring in 40% of the available minutes.
He’s made the most of his chance too, with a tally of four goals and two assists to his name so far and strikes against the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham.
Unfortunately, his breakthrough has come in a season where Leeds find themselves competing at the wrong end of the table again, with them currently 16th in the table and just two points outside of the relegation zone.
Summerville admits that is something that has caused some level of stress, although he doesn’t regret the move at all.
“There are people who sometimes ask ‘aren’t you sorry you’re not walking among them in Rotterdam right now?'” he said.
“But things run the way they do. I took a different path. In hindsight, I’m happy with how things turned out.
“I play against Haaland, Van Dijk, Salah, De Bruyne. But on the pitch, you have to think of yourself as just the best. That winning goal against Liverpool, was a few hours before my birthday.
“When I look back at the footage, I get goosebumps again. Really great. With Leeds, we are fighting to stay in the Premier League. Of course, there is stress sometimes.”
