At Napoli, there is a metaphorical big clock on the wall that is counting down the days until January 1st, which will be the date when West Ham United and any other club interested in Piotr Zielinski can talk directly to the player about a free transfer.
The midfielder has long been a target for the Hammers, who tried their best not too long ago to lure the Poland International to London, to no avail.
Since then, other teams, such as Inter Milan and Juventus, have joined West Ham in the pursuit of the Napoli player, as explained by Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday.
They state that the Serie A side have ‘reopened talks’ with the player’s agent for a new contract, since his current deal expires at the end of the season, to try and prevent a free transfer from happening.
However, the ‘countdown is ticking’, as he will be able to chat with whomever wants him ’12 days from today’.
Down the player’s end, the idea of staying in Naples is one that appeals to him, since he is ‘in love with the city and the team’, having previously rejected a big move to Saudi Arabia to prove that point.
In fact, had it been down to him, he would have signed a new contract in August, but ‘an agreement on the commission with his agent has never been found’.
Therefore, his representative’s demands have left a door open for West Ham to potentially exploit in less than two weeks.
