‘Porto want Mangala’ was the cover story of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo on Friday. The Portuguese club dream of having their old defender back, and the player is reportedly not needed in Manchester anymore.
Their story says that after Pep Guardiola’s arrival at City, it’s very unlikely that Mangala stays at the club since the Catalan manager doesn’t count on him. Guardiola has other options and has made his new club aware that’d quite like the defender to be gone.
Manchester City would like to sell the Frenchman and recover a percentage of the money spent on him in 2014. O Jogo believe Manchester City are so keen to get rid, that they’ll try various to push the player out.
Porto are said to be monitoring the situation, and they’ve already made a first contact with City. However, getting anywhere near the defender’s wages would considered impossible for a Portuguese club. He currently earns around €5m net per season.
