RB Leipzig have identified Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as one of a number of candidates for their managerial job, according to this week’s edition of SportBild.

The Austrian arrived at the Premier League side in February 2024 and the Eagles lost only three of their final 13 league games last season.

His work at Crystal Palace convinced Bayern Munich to try and snatch him last summer, before they appointed Vincent Kompany.

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß had stated the Eagles blocked his exit and Glasner played it down in December.

SportBild indicate Leipzig could consider bringing the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager back to the Bundesliga. They failed to progress to the next stage of the Champions League and are fifth in the league table.

Marco Rose is currently in charge at the club and has a deal until 2026. His future needs to be clarified.

Leipzig’s aim is to continue working with Rose and his coaching staff as long as possible and this depends on their upcoming results and showing a clear style of play. That hasn’t stopped Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer and other leaders from looking at options to replace Rose.

Schäfer is in contact with at least the Crystal Palace boss, VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß and Roger Schmidt, who is currently without a club. SportBild state: ‘All three have RB past and represent intense offensive football.’

Glasner was an assistant manager at Leipzig in the past while Schäfer has worked with him at VfL Wolfsburg. The report states the Red Bull group rate the Austrian highly and even considered him for the head of football role before they appointed Jürgen Klopp.
