Matěj Vydra’s transfer from Derby County to Leeds United is said to have broken down over wages.
The Czech striker reportedly failed to agree personal terms with the Yorkshire club and is therefore back among Frank Lampard’s squad where he doesn’t currently appear to be a major figure.
There’s a different slant in the Czech Republic, with the editor of iSport, one of the country’s leading sport media outlets, sounding quite annoyed about the way things are being reported in England.
Ondrej Chovanec is quoted dismissing claims of disagreement on wages: “It’s complete nonsense. One reason was that Matěj had long-term problems with his groin from February, the representative and Dr. Krejčí recommended him a minor procedure, which he agreed with Derby finally. It certainly didn’t fail on the player’s conditions with Leeds.
“He could hardly go elsewhere when he was not 100% fit at the time of the first offer. He’s been training for three to four weeks now.”
iSport report Vydra is now hoping for a Premier League offer, but with only a week left of the window for top flight clubs, and the Derby County striker apparently not fully fit and firing, it seems a big ask.
It’s worth listening to the Czech source, because all the way back on July 2nd, when Vydra missed Derby’s preseason trip and a transfer to Leeds was supposed to be imminent, they dismissed those claims.
Vydra had stayed behind for another reason, explained iSport, and it would now appear that was injury related.
