Manchester City will reportedly reinforce their academy this summer, and that’s not just with new players.
According to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, Oliver Reiss is on his way to the Premier League side.
It’s claimed that the German coach will take charge of Manchester City’s U-18 squad ahead of next season.
Reiss had been working at Hertha Berlin for 17 years now, and was in charge of several youth levels in their academy.
Plettenberg writes that Manchester City had been pushing for his signing for a while, especially because the German manager has a similar philosophy to Pep Guardiola.
The report claims that Reiss had invitations to become an assistant coach at clubs like Anderlecht and Hertha Berlin, but ‘consciously’ choose to take charge of Manchester City’s U-18 squad instead.
Even though Pep Guardiola’s time at the English club may be approaching its final years, it seems clear that they’d like to keep the same style in the future, and will do that by making sure that their academy players get the proper training.
