Brøndby and FC Copenhagen should be trying to secure a deal for Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard this summer.
That’s according to Mediano’s football expert Rasmus Monnerup, in comments relayed by Tipsbladet.
Vestergaard finds himself out of the picture at Leicester at this moment in time, having fallen down the pecking order under Ruud van Nistelrooy this season.
That’s seen him linked with a move away from the club this summer, even though Van Nistelrooy is destined to depart at some point soon.
There’s yet to be any real rumours about the 32-year-old, but Monnerup believes that Brøndby and Copenhagen should be making efforts to take him back to his homeland.
“Jannik Vestergaard has a past in both Brøndby and FCK, and I think both clubs are quite interested in him,” he said.
“Jannik Vestergaard himself has expressed that he could see himself in both clubs. I think Brøndby should try if the opportunity is there. He will have all the skills to play Brøndby’s left defender. He is good with both feet, can play short and long, so he would be interesting.”
The question is whether they can convince Vestergaard to leave Leicester, or even England, at this moment in time. There would also be an issue with his wages, which are believed to be ‘considerable’, at least by Denmark’s standards, at this moment in time.
He’s certainly not shown an interest in returning to Denmark when asked in the past, with the outlet also covering comments on that prospect from the Leicester defender.
“I have never played in the Superliga and have never really had a burning desire to return home,” he is quoted as saying.
“I enjoy the adventure abroad, where I experience other things, so it is not something I think about, although I do not want to rule out Denmark. However, it has not played a big role.”
