Leicester City’s impending deal for Inter Milan’s Stefano Sensi prompted Chelsea to bring Cesare Casadei back form his loan with the Foxes.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover the midfielder today and why he’s ended up back at Stamford Bridge early.
The newspaper explains that Casadei has been handed an ‘unexpected opportunity’ to stake a claim at Chelsea which he will now try to exploit in the best possible way.
He had been intending to spend the season on loan with Leicester, who sit top of the Championship under Enzo Maresca, before receiving a ‘surprise call’ for Mauricio Pochettino that he would be brought back to Chelsea.
Gazzetta explain that decision is probably linked to technical and economic evaluations being carried out, with the Blues midfield currently struggling with various injuries and Pochettino needing additions.
Chelsea have been trying to work out how to solve that and bringing back Casadei could be the answer. That idea was presented to them as they became aware of Leicester’s move for Sensi.
The Foxes are ‘one step away’ from signing the midfielder and, reports yesterday claimed that they’re simply waiting approval from the FA to finalise it.
Once that happens Casadei would have had increased competition for his place and so the Blues decided it would be more worthwhile having him at Stamford Bridge.
Whether he can now make a positive impression remains to be seen, but he’s in the mix until the end of the season regardless.
