Barcelona’s move for Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan is ‘practically complete’, with the German set to earn €12m a year at the Nou Camp.
That’s according to Sport, who say the midfielder will sign for two seasons plus an option year with the aforementioned salary.
They explain that the player’s entourage has been ‘preparing’ Gündogan’s arrival at Barcelona for a few weeks now alongside Barcelona’s sporting management Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff.
They met yesterday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper with Gündogan’s uncle and agent, Ihan Gündogan, who also represents Barcelona star Andreas Christensen.
It’s not the first time they have met but this latest meeting saw ‘progress continued’ on the deal to bring the Manchester City man to the club at the end of the season.
He finishes his deal at the Etihad on 30th June and will arrival on a free transfer, having refused to renew his deal with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Manchester City have been ‘writing the player off for weeks’, knowing that the 32-year-old has decided to leave England in search of a new adventure. His entourage have been working on the move to Barcelona for weeks.
That’s now progressed to the point that the player has a two-year contract with the option of a third ready to sign, with him set to earn €12m a year gross from it.
Barcelona had initially been eyeing a move for Manchester City teammate Bernardo Silva, but his high price has made him unobtainable, leading to Barcelona pushing for Gündoasgan.
