There’s no denying that Leeds United’s approach to try and sign Andoni Iraola from Rayo Vallecano has left an impression on the Spanish media.
That’s because the manager’s contract with the La Liga side expires in the summer, and the hard work he has put in, taking the club comfortably into the top half of the table, caught the eye of Victor Orta.
There was hope Leeds could easily sway the man and convince Rayo to let him go, but that wasn’t to be the case, which is exactly what then happened when they tried to sign Arne Slot from Feyenoord.
Still, the Spanish side’s sporting director David Cobeño is clearly proud to have been able to see off Leeds, because he has been doing the rounds in the Spanish media to discuss it.
Despite that, Cobeño insists he was rather calm about it all.
He said: “Iraola is a man of his word and the club had no doubt that he was going to continue and help us until the end of the season. We are very happy with Andoni and want him to continue. As soon as we achieve the season’s objectives, we will sit down and will all do our part so that we can continue on this path that has already lasted three seasons and hopefully many more.”
