Real Betis are ‘not in a position’ to sign Daniel Podence from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer and reports of a deal between €7-10m are wide of the mark.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Spanish club don’t have that kind of money available to them at this moment in time.
A report earlier today from journalist Pedro Sepúlveda claimed that Betis were targeting Podence and were in advanced negotiations with Wolves over a deal that would be worth between €7-10m.
At first that figure seemed low given Wolves paid Olympiacos €20m to sign him in January 2020, although the fact that Podence’s deal at Molineux expires next summer might have been a contributing factor.
Mundo, though, say it is nowhere near being low enough for Betis to be involved as they simply don’t have the funds for a deal at that price.
They explain that Betis are ‘not in a position’ to be making such transfers and that is why they are looking around the market for free players or loans such as Barcelona duo Alex Collado or Ez Abde.
The ‘Podence thing’ according to them is nothing more than an ‘offer’ being made to Betis and the fact he’s a player they’ve scouted and have ‘good reports on’.
In other words, he’s been offered by intermediaries because they know Betis have showed an interest at some point.
However, the Spanish club have ‘other priorities’ at this moment in time and that, coupled with a lack of financial capability, seems to make a move for the Wolves man unlikely.
