In February, RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins stated that Tottenham Hotspur had their eyes set on FC Nantes’ Bastien Meupiyou. He also said the centre-back is one to watch in the summer window.
The 18-year-old made his first team debut in September 2023 against Marseille, and that has been his only appearance for the Ligue 1 side. Meupiyou suffered a serious injury in October and has been sidelined since then.
His current situation hasn’t put off Tottenham, if L’Equipe is to be believed.
The report says the French club will undergo several changes in the summer window, and clarifies Meupiyou’s situation is one of their challenges.
He’s one of Nantes’ ‘great hopes’, and they have been in talks with the youngster to renew his contract for a while. His current deal lasts until 2025.
At the same time, the Frenchman is ‘coveted’ by top European clubs, and only Tottenham are mentioned.
L’Equipe say Nantes can’t let him leave for free next year, meaning they would be willing to sell him in the next window. Spurs can take advantage of Meupiyou’s contract situation to secure a cheap deal.
