As Watford and Benfica are still to confirm the transfer of Henrique Araujo, we now get to see the detail which has been delaying this deal.
According to newspaper Record, the move is blocked because of a demand made by the Eagles, which is a clause for the number of appearances he’ll make for the Championship side.
Benfica are loaning Araujo to Watford and reportedly want him to feature in 75% of the Hornets’ games for at least 45 minutes, and in case that doesn’t happen, they want to be paid €1m.
The English club is said to be against that demand, and that’s delaying the move for now.
Record, however, insists that Araujo is still expected to move to Watford and fight for the promotion to the Premier League.
He’s been having no playing time at Benfica, who want him in a competitive league to continue developing.
The deal between the clubs is set to include no buying option, and according to other Portuguese newspapers today, the Eagles’ idea is to soon have him back in their first team, as they have a big belief in his potential.
They just don’t feel he’s ready to play just yet.
