Football is full of failed transfers that ended up negatively affecting a player and for Darío Osorio, that might be his failure to join Southampton.
Red Gol cover the player today and how he’s been struggling over this year, following Southampton’s efforts to secure his signature last winter.
They explain the player ‘received a formal offer’ from the Saints last year but it was rejected by his club, who wanted to keep him until the end of the season and a potential call up to the Chilean national team.
The latter could have seen his value increase considerably, but the decision has not worked out, with the ‘latest indicators’ suggesting the player has not done anything positive at Universidad de Chile to keep his value high.
Last season he was the ‘saving grace’ for a poor campaign and the club’s management received ‘daily messages’ to find out his price.
The rest were informal call, proposals and promises to monitor the player, with Universidad de Chile electing to wait until the end of the season to see what bids arrived.
That decision now seems ‘controversial’ as while Osorio improved in the second half of the campaign, he’s been struggling this year.
That’s been acknowledged by his coach Sebastián Miranda who has admitted the player is struggling.
“Dario is disconnected and we talked about it. He’s had a lot of issues like a possible sale, travelling with the national team. It’s an exhausting year with the national team and the U. I’m happy with his work, he’s given great commitment and the club has to be proud.”
According to the website, the youngster will have to ‘review his notes’ if he wishes to get himself back into the race to reach European football.
His club’s decision to ‘reject the mid-year offers’ from Southampton hasn’t worked out for him, with his value decreasing and his performances not helping that.
