Liverpool are one of the clubs in the picture to sign Real Betis youngster Assane Diao, according to a report from Spain.
The 17-year-old was part of the Spanish club’s reserve team last season and managed four goals and two assists from 20 games for them. This has seen him generate interest from other clubs.
That’s according to AS, who explain that Liverpool and RB Leipzig ‘want’ the forward.
The Spain U19 international has a contract expiring in 2024 and the La Liga side haven’t been successful so far to tie the ‘powerful’ attacker down to a new contract.
It’s claimed Manuel Pellegrini’s side are ‘worried’ about losing one of their ‘great pearls’, because the Reds, the Bundesliga side and others are lurking around him.
AS add both the Merseyside club and Leipzig have contacted the player’s entourage over a potential deal.
If Liverpool were to complete the deal, Diao cannot arrive in England in this window because of new rules following Brexit, where clubs in the UK cannot sign foreign players below the age of 18.
The teenager will turn 18 years of age on September 7th, so wouldn’t have to wait long.
