If Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday are to be believed, AS Roma and José Mourinho are planning to make an offer for a Chelsea player in the January transfer window.
The Italian newspaper explain the Serie A side are ‘working’ to have Trevoh Chalobah in their squad in the coming weeks as they try and bolster their squad for a tough second half of the campaign.
There has been an ‘emergency’ for some time in defence, and the Chelsea player, who has yet to feature under Mauricio Pochettino due to injury, appears to be the ideal man for the job.
The Blues man is seen as having ‘considerable potential’ and a ‘great desire to show his worth’ after not playing any football since August.
Despite having resumed training at Chelsea a few days ago, his ‘fate is far’ from Stamford Bridge as he needs to get minutes under his belt to get a chance of featuring in the Argentine’s plans.
He already knows Mourinho from the Special One’s most recent time at the Blues, who had already heard ‘very good things’ about the young defender who he was there.
The manager could now be his mentor going forward, even if it’s made very clear that AS Roma aren’t the only side who have the centre-back in their sights for a quick deal in January.
