Barcelona ‘won’t do anything crazy’ to keep Joao Cancelo at the club from Manchester City this summer, even if they player pushes to stay at the Camp Nou.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Catalans will again look for a loan deal for the full-back and nothing more than that.
The newspaper explains that Barcelona would welcome Cancelo staying at the club for another season, considering his loan deal from Manchester City this season a success overall.
They will only do so, though, if there are affordable conditions to extend the loan deal already agreed and if Manchester City ‘ask for the moon, they won’t do anything crazy.’
That’s because they need to spend the little money they do have elsewhere, and the club need the player to sign on ‘generous conditions’ like he did last summer.
Cancelo, for his part, wants to stay at Barcelona and does not have any desire to return to Manchester City, so that could play it’s part.
Indeed, a report yesterday indicated that his refusal to look at other potential options could end up costing Manchester City the €30m they were hoping to make from a sale this summer.
This report is very much in line with that, indicating that Cancelo will make things difficult, and Barcelona will only do a deal for him that absolutely suits them.
Give Pep Guardiola is unlikely to want Cancelo back either, that could leave Manchester City in an awkward position, perhaps agreeing to a loan deal they might not ordinarily sanction just to resolve a situation which will need sorting this summer.
