For the past few days, there’s been a rumour in Brazil saying Flamengo could soon go after West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena.

As the player’s contract with the Hammers expires at the end of the season, that’s a chance for several clubs to try to get him for free.

So journalist Jorge Nicola explains the situation in a video today, and claims to find it quite unlikely that the Rio de Janeiro side would sign Balbuena soon.

He first mentions that the defender has been starting most of West Ham’s matches this season, and the London side are expected to offer him a new contract.

And as Balbuena makes around £150k a month at West Ham, that’s unlikely that Flamengo could afford his salary. They have players who make that much money, but none of them are defenders.

According to his sources from the Brazilian club, they’re focused on other priorities for now. Only in case Balbuena doesn’t agree to a new deal with West Ham by April or May, then they’d try to make his signing.
