Barcelona appointed Ronald Koeman as their new manager in August and the Dutchman identified Sergiño Dest, Eric García and Memphis Depay as his priority targets.
Dest has arrived at the Camp Nou, but the La Liga side are still continuing their efforts for García and Depay, who are in their final year of contract at Manchester City and Lyon respectively.
The Catalan club’s initial offer worth €10m was turned down by the Citizens, and they are not willing to meet City’s €30m demand for the 19-year-old.
On Friday, Marca reported the Premier League side are ready to lower their demands, but not as low as the Blaugrana can afford. They also stressed there has to be a ‘radical turn’ for both clubs to find an agreement for the defender’s transfer.
‘Barça raise the offer for Eric García,’ is the title of a report in Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
Barca technical secretary Ramon Planes admitted it’s possible for the club to bring in a new defender.
“On an offensive level there is great potential and, defensively, it is true that it is weaker. We’ll work until the last day to bring the best and, if anyone comes, it can be good,” he explained.
In this sense, Mundo explains that Barca have ‘returned to charge for García’ and ‘will fight until the end’ to sign the Spaniard.
It’s claimed the Catalan club have increased their offer, but Pep Guardiola’s side ‘do not give in for now’.
What that new offer would be isn’t specified, but City not accepting it would indicate the proposal is still short of the fee requested by the Etihad club.
